Day 13

Andrew had a pretty good day. He loves all the meals judging by his ability to Hoover up every last bit. He will never forget Romaine, his CNA who concocted some fancy mishmash out of whatever she could find. Debra put him through more PT and a few more successes. We are getting closer to repatriation home. That is turning into a pretty good challenge between the sending doc and "where in the world is 'Dr. Waldo' in British Columbia". The best advice if you ever have to do this is have three phones at your disposal, a computer and lots of friends who are health care providers and unlimited patience! But Marcie said no rants.

All said, progress is in a forward direction. Thanks for all of the people who stepped up on our behalf taking time from their professional lives to call in favours for Andrew today. We are truly grateful.

  2. Glad to hear Andrew is getting closer to repatriation. The red tape must be maddening and I don't mind a good rant if you are ready to let one rip. I looked up Dr Waldo in BC and the closest I came was Waldo Pepper's restaurant in Saanich. Probably a reasonable place to feed Andrew (no bacon shortage) but not the best place to get medical care.

Good luck with the ongoing challenges. Steve

  3. I'm not sure if Christine has sent you a message yet, but we've been following Andrew's progress and thinking of you. After the initial euphoria of learning Andrew was awake, we're realizing that the journey to recovery isn't going to play out like a movie montage where everything's back to normal by the end of the song. We're hoping for many more euphoric moments of triumph though - just in their own time. Thank you for sharing them with us.

(Marcie - it seems silly to mention your birthday now, but we did note that it came and went... and we were thinking of you. We love you!)

  4. We are hoping that you guys can all get back home as soon as possible. I can't even imagine the hoops you must be trying to jump through to make this happen. Wish we would share the special secret with you, but even we don't know it and it's our health care ! If you happen to get transferred out by us to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, I have several friends who work out there ... but I hope you get home instead. Glad to head that Andrew is eating all in sight. A long recovery it sounds like, but so thankful to hear of the small steps towards healing. No matter how small, they all add up. If you need a night out and want a home-cooked meal - the invitation is always open. Just say when. Go Bears !
